Mike Kimeu, Program Director

Mike Kimeu, a University of Nairobi graduate who also worked with youth at the Christian Children’s Fund, spends a great deal of his time counseling children and families and trouble-shooting on problems ranging from health crises to vocational placements. He is the main planner of lectures, workshops and trips as well as meetings of our local Machakos professional advisory board, a group of community leaders who garner support for our programs and provide advice and logistical support.

Alex Mutiso, Senior Founding Teacher

Alex Mutiso, an Adult Education Department teacher, has worked with street children in Machakos for more than a decade.  He has been instrumental in designing Jitegemee’s programs and teaches basic math, literacy and communication skills to vocational students in the first phase of our rehabilitation class. He also provides training and support to their guardians.

Laurah Mwelu, Teacher and Social Worker

Laurah Mwelu worked for three years as an office assistant and a social worker for the Undugu Society and the Red Cross before joining Jitegemee’s team. Laurah helps arrange academic support for secondary and college students, and she also conducts field visits and learning experiences for Jitegemee’s vocational class. 

Elizabeth Nzivo, Teacher and Administration Assistant

Elizabeth Nzivo is an energetic young person with several years experience teaching at a local high school. She assists in teaching Jitegemee’s vocational students and coordinating support for students in formal schooling. Elizabeth also teaches the “Living Values” education curriculum to both formal and vocational students, which is designed to help young people make better choices in their personal lives.
